The problem is, they have not done any of them… So, they would, theoretically… For that matter, Flickr could respond with many improvements as well, theoretically.

True, Flickr won’t stand still. But Google already has the desktop client, which I believe will be crucial in this battle. They also have the superior mapping service and search algorithms.
But the point of the article is to:
a) Outline the features Google should implement if it wants to beat Flickr, and
b) Point out that Yahoo/Flickr should be looking hard for a desktop image organizing solution (preferrably a cross-platform one).
